  • Books I Read More Than Once in 2022 – Part 1

Category:  Sacred Books

I have what some may call an insatiable appetite for knowledge.  I read at least one book a week and often have multiple books going at once.  I mostly read the spiritual/self-help genre because I am always looking to push the envelope in my own spiritual/growth journey and well, that is what turns me on.

It’s not all learning and no play, I also enjoy a good cozy mystery, usually one with a metaphysical or magical theme to it.  Great way at the end of the day to help me unwind!

I consume different genres via different mediums.  For self-help, academic or reference books, I like to have an actual print book so I can get all geeky, highlighting and making notes in the margins.  I also usually get a copy of these books as an audio book when available.  I find that sometimes I get different insights when listening and I also like that I can easily bookmark favorite passages and play them back when I need to.

When I settle down with a cozy mystery or romance novel, it’s usually via the Kindle app. These are my guilty pleasures, and they are what I read when winding down for the night before bed. (If you are interested in my favorites in this genre, drop a comment below and I will put together a post on my favorites from 2022).

When I find a book that intrigues me or stirs some curiosity in me, I often read the book multiple times.  I find that each time I read it, I find some new nugget of wisdom or message I need to hear in the moment.  Most often, these books are self-help books, but sometimes, which was the case this past year, I read a novel (usually historical fiction), that strikes a chord in me – the essence of the story rings true and really inspires me to delve deeper into the subject matter in the book.

Here are the books I read more than once in 2022 and why…

The Expected One by Kathleen McGowan

This is book one of a trilogy exploring the life and relationship of Mary Magdalene and Jesus.  This is a subject that I am deeply interested in, and this book did not disappoint.  It is written as a novel, but I found myself deeply touched and inspired by the ‘truth’ of the story.  It is hard to explain if you have never experienced something like this, but the story woke some knowing deep within me.  The book is well researched and written from a deeply personal place and inspired me to delve deeper into the Magdalene Mysteries.

I found myself re-reading this book when I was feeling like the world was chaotic and filled with so much discord.  The book gives me hope.  It reminds me that love is all that matters and when we live that love as a daily practice, we can create miracles and change the world.

When journalist Maureen Paschal begins the research for a new book, she has no idea that she is stepping into an ancient mystery so secret, so revolutionary, that thousands of people have killed and died for it.

Two thousand years ago, Mary Magdalene hid a set of scrolls in the French Pyrenees: the Gospel of Mary Magdalene, her version of the life of Jesus and the events of the New Testament. Protected by supernatural forces, these sacred scrolls could be uncovered only by a special seeker, one who fulfills the ancient prophecy of L’Attendu, the Expected One.

As Maureen becomes immersed in the mystical lore of L’Attendu, the eerie prophecy of the Expected One casts a shadow over her life and work, and a long-buried family secret comes to light. Maureen’s extraordinary journey takes her from the dusty streets of Jerusalem to the cathedrals of Paris to the rocky foothills of southwest France. To search for the scrolls, she must unravel clues that link history’s great artistic masters, dynasties, and scientific minds.

Ultimately, she comes face-to-face with Jesus Christ, Mary Magdalene, and a love triangle that changed the course of history in a deeply moving and powerful new gospel…the greatest story never told.

Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself by Dr. Joe Dispenza

This book changed my life!  Yes, I know what a powerful statement that is, but it is true.  I have read many, many books on shifting habits and manifestation, but I never received the information the way I did with this book.  I liked the way that the author brings his experience as a scientist and the quantum physics and biology of the subject matter into the teaching in the book.  I am all about the Woo, but I also have a practical side to me that wants some kind of proof when it comes to metaphysical subject matter – I think it’s my Gemini nature…lol.

When I read this book, something clicked for me and for the first time, I felt like I finally truly understood the power I have over what happens to me in my life each day.  I found it easier to begin making shifts where I had been unsuccessful in the past.  New opportunities that are aligned with who I hope to be and the life I am trying to create, began showing up in the most amazing ways.  It felt like I had finally broken some secret code and it is wonderful!

I think a big part of the appeal of this book was that the information shared took away the shame and guilt I had always carried for not getting it right in the first place.  The link to quantum physics and brain repatterning from a scientific perspective took that layer of guilt and shame out of the equation for me.  It showed me that I was programmed this way by my family and extended family and my experiences in life—I wasn’t to blame!  AND, it showed me that I also have the power to change that programming.

I listened to the audiobook version of this book several times this year and I know it will be a staple in my library of go to books when I feel myself falling back into old habits and deep seeded programming that is not in alignment with the life I am working to create in this world.

Witch: Unleashed. Untamed. Unapologetic. By Lisa Lister

2022 was the year I finally claimed the word WITCH as a descriptor for who/what I am.  It was a powerful process for me.  It was how I had always thought of myself, but rarely did I share that with others.  Sure a few friends and family members knew, but it wasn’t something I ever really talked about, even though, it is core part of who I am.  When I finally healed the part of myself that had always been afraid of the judgement and fear that the title might invoke in others, I stepped into my power in a way that I never had before, and I finally felt at home with who I was.

So, I know it wasn’t an accident when shortly after I publicly began calling myself a WITCH, that I stumbled upon Witch by Lisa Lister.  As I listened to the audiobook, I found myself cheering Lisa’s boldness on and all I kept thinking was, “this is the book I wish I had written.”

As I listened to Lisa’s own experience with claiming the word WITCH and her quest to reclaim the title for the powerful meaning it once held, I found myself feeling empowered and proud to be one of the many women who are reclaiming the title of WITCH.

I listen to this book whenever I need a boost of power and courage to fully embrace who I am in this world.  Lisa’s no nonsense approach is refreshing and lends courage to those working to break the bonds of toxic patriarchal conditioning and find their way as a wise woman in this modern world.

A witch is a wise woman, a healer. Yet for so long the word witch has had negative connotations. In this book, third generation hereditary witch Lisa Lister explains the history behind witchcraft, why identifying as a healer in past centuries led women to be burned at the stake, and why the witch is reawakening in women across the world today. This book provides an overview of the different schools of witchcraft and the core principles and practices within them. Discover ancient wisdom made relevant for modern witches:

  • The wheel of the year, the sabbats, the cycles of the moon
  • Tools to enhance your intuition, including oracle cards and dowsing, so that you can make decisions quickly and comfortably
  • Understanding the ancient use of the word medicine
  • How to work with herbs, crystals and power animals so that you have support in your spiritual work
  • Work with the elements to achieve deep connection with the world around you

In addition, Lisa teaches personal, hands-on rituals and spells from her family lineage of gypsy witch magic to help you heal, manifest, and rediscover your powers.
